# Technical Details - Blur ID

Last updated: 2026-05-19

Blur ID is built for on-device visual privacy protection. The app detects faces, avatars, usernames, names, and sensitive text in screenshots or photos, then applies blur or masking effects before the image is shared.

## How Blur ID Works

1. The user imports a screenshot or photo on iPhone.
2. Blur ID analyzes the image locally on the device.
3. The app identifies privacy-sensitive areas such as faces, avatars, display names, usernames, and text.
4. The user reviews the detected areas and adjusts the result if needed.
5. Blur ID exports a privacy-protected image for sharing.

## On-Device Processing

Blur ID is designed so image processing happens locally on the user's iPhone. This reduces privacy risk because screenshots and photos do not need to be uploaded to a remote server for automatic redaction.

## Detection Targets

| Target | Why it matters |
| --- | --- |
| Faces | Protects personal identity in photos and screenshots |
| Avatars | Hides profile pictures in social, dating, and messaging apps |
| Usernames | Prevents unwanted account discovery |
| Names | Redacts personal identifiers in conversations |
| Sensitive text | Helps protect private details before sharing |

## Supported Screenshot Types

- Dating app conversations
- Social media posts and comments
- Messaging app screenshots
- Work communication screenshots
- Group chats
- Photos containing faces or identifiable people

## Privacy Position

Blur ID is a privacy-first photo editor. Its core value is reducing accidental exposure of private information before screenshots and photos are posted, sent, or archived.
